The International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU) is deeply saddened to announce the death of Dr. Josep Antoni Rom Rodríguez, Rector of the Universitat Ramon Llull, on November 8, 2025 at the age of 61.
Throughout his career - notably at the Blanquerna Faculty of Communication and International Relations, which he helped to found - Mr. Rom Rodríguez has exemplarily embodied the mission of the Catholic university: to place research, training and creativity at the service of the individual and the common good. His intellectual and spiritual commitment, nourished by a deep sense of dialogue and a sincere attachment to the university community, left a lasting mark on the URL.
As Rector, he combined academic rigour with humanism, promoting a vision of higher education centred on cooperation, social responsibility and faith in the capacity of education to transform society.
FIUC extends its deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Rom Rodríguez, and to all the teachers, students and staff of the Universitat Ramon Llull.
We pay tribute to a scholar deeply devoted to the service of others, and join our prayers to those of the community that his work may provide lasting inspiration for generations to come.
In union of prayers,
Dr. François Mabille, Secretary General,
The IFCU General Secretariat team
The International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU)
