Council of Europe - Minutes of the Committee on Migration Issues
IFCU, a member of the Council of Europe's Conference of International Non-Governmental Organizations (COING), has been involved in the Migration Issues Committee for several years. The Committee met on October 12 during the COING autumn session.
This was an opportunity to review the past year's achievements, marked by increased collaboration with Council of Europe bodies, in particular the new Division of Migration and Refugees, and participation in the Frontex Advisory Committee.
Also of note was the preparation and distribution of 3 webinars on access to education for young people in migrant situations, with the participation of IFCU, and in particular the University of Deusto, which presented its policy in this area. Two webinars are planned, the first on "training trainers" working with migrants, and the second on AI and migration. IFCU members who would like to share their experience or research work on the subject are invited to do so.
The committee finalized the recommendation on migrant accommodation, which will be presented to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The aim is to recall that accommodation, a prerequisite for integration, is the responsibility of states, and to underline the obligation to preserve the dignity and minimum comfort of people, regardless of their status.
In a national and European political context where associations are facing increasing financial and legal obstacles to fulfilling their mission and defending human rights, the Committee has also prepared a press release on the risks weighing on civil society.
