Commemorating the Portuguese Revolution of 1974 & Evaluating the Future of Democracy's Third Wave'. Evaluating the Future of Democracy's Third Wave
From 3 to 5 June, the Institute of Political Studies of the Catholic University of Portugal organised the 2024 edition of the Estoril Political Forum on the theme 'Commemorating the Portuguese Revolution of 1974 & Evaluating the Future of Democracy's Third Wave'. Evaluating the Future of Democracy's Third Wave'.
In this edition, which received the High Patronage of the President of the Republic of Portugal, the program was able to count on speakers from Germany, Angola, the United States of America, France, Guinea Bissau, Hungary, England, Italy, Lebanon, Poland, Portugal and the Czech Republic, among others.
The themes discussed included the 50th anniversary of 25 April, the third wave of global democratisation, the future of democracy in various regions of the world - Brazil, India, the Middle East, Africa - the war in Ukraine and the American elections.
A round table on Tuesday 4 June sponsored by the International Federation of Catholic Universities was held on the theme of 'University diplomacy and democratic commitment: the role of Catholic universities'. This session was chaired by Isabel Capeloa Gil (Rector of the Catholic University of Portugal and President of IFCU) and included the participation of Jorge Quintas (Secretary General of the Amélia de Mello Foundation), François Mabille (IFCU Secretary General), Lara Karam Boustany (former Rector of La Sagesse University, Beirut and member of the IFCU Administrative Board), Rodolfo Gallo (President of the ODUCAL) and Stephen Morgan (President of the ASEACCU and IFCU Vice-President).
