Presentation

In the difficult cultural, social and political context that followed the end of the Second World War, characterized by great tensions between the Western democracies and the countries aligned with the Soviet Union, Catholic educators came together to reflect on the challenges posed by this new reality. On American soil, the Inter-American Congresses of Catholic Education, held in La Paz, Bolivia, in 1948, and in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1951, were significant. From these came the initiative to create an entity that would bring together the Catholic universities of Latin America. This idea was formally analyzed at the Congress of the World Federation of Catholic Universities — the predecessor of the current International Federation of Catholic Universities — held in Quebec, Canada, in 1952.
